William Borden is a playwright, poet, novelist, and essayist. His plays have won 21 national playwriting competitions and have had over 200 productions in New York, Los Angeles, Canada, Germany, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and elsewhere. The film version of his play, The Last Prostitute, was shown on Lifetime Television and in Europe and is on video. His novel, Superstoe, first published in the U.S. by Harper & Row and in England by Victor Gollanz, was recently republished by Orloff Press. A core Alumnus Playwright at The Playwrights Center In Minneapolis, he is Playwright in Residence with Listening Winds Theatre and a member of PEN, The Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, and the Authors Guild. His plays have been published in The Best Stage Scenes 1998, Contemporary International Plays For Young Audiences, This Month on Stage, Kafka Kaleidoscope, One-Act Plays for Acting Students, Play It Again! More One-Act Plays for Acting Students, Eleven Plays from the Midwest Radio Theatre Workshop, Plainswoman, The Prague Review (Czech Republic), People Around You (Germany), First Nations People in America (Germany), and by Brooklyn Publishers and Listening Winds Theatre Press. Thomas Peterson, composer, conductor and producer, has received awards and commissions from professional, college, and community music organizations across the United States. He has written works for nearly every genre and in many styles from modern Classical to Pop, including The Enlightening Breath, which was commissioned by the North Dakota Centennial Commission for the states four symphony orchestras. The work received performances in the state during the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons. Petersons most successful work to date, the 80-minute saga The Tale of the Rings of Power based on J.R.R. Tolkiens Lord of the Rings, has achieved international recognition. His newest major work is the musical drama Sakakawea with book and lyrics by William Borden. The work received its premiere in 1989, conducted by George Robert Hanson, with Korliss Uecker and Tammy Hensrud-Kerian in the lead roles. Peterson, who studied conducting with Bev Henson and composition with Fisher Tull in Texas, has been on the cutting edge of musical activism in the U.S., founding organizations to support and engage fellow musicians, including Dakota Composers, and the Grand Forks Fine Arts Chorale (later the Master Chorale). He has been an Artist in Residence in North Dakota and Washington, and is an author, clinician, and lobbyist for music writers. |
